Enter The Rebrand

I may not be Madonna, but I’m definitely starting to feel like the queen of reinvention. There are a lot of changes ahead, and here’s why.
Running my business, Yanira & Co. has a lot of moving parts, and I’ve quickly realized that the way I used to do things just isn’t cutting it anymore. Just a few months in, I’ve already dropped the ball on something. While minor, it still shouldn’t have happened.
In the early days, I didn’t have the organization, time, or support to juggle everything, and burnout became a constant companion. The thought of diving back into that chaotic whirlwind felt overwhelming. These days, my body doesn’t handle stress the same way—it just shuts down, and then nothing gets done. That leads to a lack of consistency that impacts everything I do. So, I’ve started drafting an evolving business plan, adjusting it as I go, and figuring out what works and what doesn’t.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that the pressure to keep everything "on brand" across every platform is a surefire way to burn out. I ended up spending more time planning and preparing than actually doing the work!
What my plan has shown me—beyond the need to narrow my focus—is that this "on brand" approach only works when you have a team. I’m a solopreneur, so it’s time to get brutally honest: my business needs a major edit. Here’s a clearer breakdown of my business pillars, in order of priority:
Wardrobe Styling:
This is my core work and agency bookings are my main focus. In the past, I juggled private clients and consignment sales, but this time around, I’m sticking strictly to agency work. I’m rebuilding my portfolio, and at my agent’s request, this will be my top priority.
Makeup Artistry:
This is freelance work I do for brands. I take on makeup projects for brands like NARS and Fresh on weekends when I’m not booked through the agency. I also work with private clients for lessons, events, and weddings, which I’ll book around my styling gigs.
Writing:
I currently write for MBG, have contributed to Well & Good, and of course, there’s this blog…sort of.
Now, the main thing that has suffered from my inconsistency is this blog. But don’t worry, there’s a plan. This site will evolve into a portfolio to showcase my work as a stylist, MUA, and writer. It’s become cluttered and lacks focus, and I need a simple "home base" to direct clients to. Managing both a portfolio and a blog has become overwhelming, so I’m making a big shift.
I’m leaving behind the traditional blog model and moving to Substack. Substack reminds me of the early days of Blogspot—when blogs were a space for real, raw stories and community without the pressure of fancy ads or hyper-focused content. Blogging became so restricted, but moving my content to Substack feels like finally taking off a bra after a long day. If you know, you know. It’s a place to share stories on style and beauty, with a focus on embracing your fabulous self, no matter your age. I finally passed the 40 threshold guys! This won’t be tied to my professional work, but more of a passion project where I can explore style and beauty from the inside out.
Reorganizing my business this way will give me room to enjoy the industry as both a professional and an enthusiast. All in all, my business is being restructured to flow more naturally and with greater clarity. This entire life of mine has needed a rebrand, so make sure to follow me on Substack for my new blog, The Rebrand.
Thank you for the many years, and for sticking with me through all the changes. It’s about to get even more exciting!
